The title The Bossa Nova Era is somewhat misleading: although this is a decent sampler of Brazilian music, the performances don't always have the gentle beats and jazzy sophistication of, say, Antonio Carlos Jobim or João Gilberto (both of whom do appear here), that would qualify as true bossa nova. What is here mostly consists of Brazilian pop, a little less harmonically experimental and frequently employing more raucous samba-style percussion sections for rhythmic accompaniment. And much of it is quite good, with highlights provided by Quarteto Em Cy, Oscar Castro-Neves, Toquinho e Vinicius, and Sergio Batera, among others. ~ Steve Huey, All Music Guide
