This CD reissue's title refers to the fact that pianist Jimmy Rowles appears with a drumless trio (including guitarist Larry Koonse and bassist Eric Von Essen) on four numbers, with a quartet on three songs (drummer Ralph Penland is added), and a quintet (with the addition of cornetist Bill Berry) on four other pieces. The music throughout is mellow and quiet with Rowles' chordal style very much the dominant force; he also takes half-spoken vocals on "I Never Loved Anyone" and "I've Grown Accustomed to Her Face." Only "I Wished on the Moon," "Sweet Lorraine," and the closing blues move above a medium-slow pace and the overall results are melodic and relaxing, if never all that stimulating. ~ Scott Yanow, All Music Guide
