All Music Guide Review

A sweeping, memorable score that salts in enough Scottish instrumentation to evoke the subject of the film without turning the whole production into a cheap parody. The main theme is a grandly melancholic effort that stands up to the periodic restatements throughout the disc, while Karen Matheson's vocal contributions do an excellent job of mood-setting. Burwell, who has spent much of his career working with independent filmmaker John Sayles, is a talent worth far more attention than he receives. ~ Steven McDonald, All Music Guide
