    All Music Guide Review

Two different classic pianists are featured on this LP from the British Affinity label. Jess Stacy is heard with a quartet in 1951 that also includes rhythm guitarist George Van Eps, bassist Morty Corb and drummer Nick Fatool, performing eight veteran swing standards. The great stride pianist Ralph Sutton, who had recorded his first solo sides just four years earlier, plays eight duets with drummer Cliff Leeman from 1953. The fresher material (which includes pieces associated with Fats Waller, Willie "The Lion" Smith, Bob Zurke and James P. Johnson) gives Sutton the edge over Stacy, but all of the music on the unrelated sessions is quite enjoyable and worthy of eventual reissue on CD. ~ Scott Yanow, All Music Guide
