Chelsea, MI's the Holy Cows had been slugging it out around their Midwestern homeland for years before releasing this, their Big Pop Records debut. Get Along has the group cranking out classic, rootsy rock that, while not quite alt-country, had a pleasant twang that recalled old-school country rockers. The guitars jangle just enough, and the vocal harmonies have the right melancholy legato to suggest R.E.M. with a whisper, as in the chorus of "Space." That isn't to suggest that vocalist/guitarist Jon Popovich, guitarist Scott Salyer, drummer Mike Popovich, and bassist Michael Feeny haven't worked hard to forge a sound of their own -- they have. And on standout tracks like "Get Along," "Welcome Back," and "Through the Keyhole," Get Along demonstrates the Holy Cows to have an honest rock recklessness and tuneful songwriting prowess that's rare and a delight to listen to. A standout disc, from another mostly-ignored '90s rock band. Fans of alt-country and down-home classic rock styling are encouraged to seek this record out. ~ Vincent Jeffries, All Music Guide
