    All Music Guide Review

Actually, "a promotion of women on Epic" would be a more accurate subtitle for this 10-track label sampler that focuses on Epic's stable of female mainstream pop singers, mixing hits by Celine Dion, Sade, Basia, and Gloria Estefan with music by has-beens like Cyndi Lauper and Jennifer Rush, and yet-to-bes like Nicky Holland and Beverley Craven. Arbitrary and uneven, the collection suggests Epic's surprisingly large commitment to the deathless music industry verity that there will always be a place in the business for an attractive woman with an adequate voice singing romantic lyrics at a ballad tempo. (Which doesn't explain what the gay, folkie Indigo Girls are doing singing one of their best songs, "Closer To Fine" here. The answer is, they're women and they're on Epic, too.) ~ William Ruhlmann, All Music Guide
