BMG Special Products' Psychedelic Pop: 12 Spaced-Out '60s Classics is one of the better budget-line collections of '60s psychedelic pop. There are a number of familiar items here, some ("Eight Miles High") more authentically psychedelic than others ("Green Tambourine"), but there are also rarities by Tradewinds ("Mind Excursion"), Fever Tree ("San Francisco Girls (Return of the Native)") and Eire Apparent ("The Clown"). Taken with such classics as "Monterey," "I Had Too Much to Dream (Last Night)," "White Rabbit," "Incense and Peppermints," "Pictures of Matchstick Men" and "(We Ain't Got) Nothin' Yet," these rarities add context to Psychedelic Pop and help draw a more complete picture of the era. As far as budget-priced discs go, it doesn't get much better than this -- not only are these all original recordings, but there are many psychedelic classics here with only a couple of weak cuts, which is enough for many casual listeners. ~ Stephen Thomas Erlewine, All Music Guide
