This compilation features assorted 1950s sounds originally released under the Capitol Records umbrella, including novelty, straight doo wop, and R&B from early pioneers, with Sammy Hagan & the Viscounts looming large on "Out of Your Heart," a romantic, deep "wop" accented by "shab-ba-da-dooms." Furthermore, Johnny Otis & Group does "In the Dark," which features a dynamic female lead. Nonsensical, rhythmic harmonies from the Five Keyes on "Ling Ting Tong" and tracks by a cast of crooners including the Passions and Norman Fox & the Rob Roys makes this an oldie delight. Note, though, that the Spinners, who do "Love's Prayer," are not the more famous Detroit Spinners of Motown and Atlantic Records fame. ~ Andrew Hamilton, All Music Guide
