This collector's LP contains most of a broadcast by the Boyd Raeburn Orchestra from December 1945. This Jubilee broadcast (with dated patter from Ernie "Bubbles" Whitman) features the Raeburn Orchestra at its most advanced; except for "Boyd Meets Stravinsky" (an Eddie Finckel arrangement) and Dizzy Gillespie's "Night in Tunisia," all of the charts were written by the rather radical George Handy. In addition to these fine performances (which includes a vocal by Ginnie Powell on a crazy arrangement of "Temptation"), there are two features for Mel Tormé and the Mel-Tones and a pair of piano solos by Dodo Marmarosa. Well worth searching for. ~ Scott Yanow, All Music Guide
