Before the release of his eponymous debut album, Paul Jefferson had spent some time in Nashville writing songs professionally. In fact, he cowrote Aaron Tippin's number one hit "That's As Close As I'll Get To Loving You," which gives an idea of what kind of music Jefferson plays on his debut. Jefferson sounds like a mainstream new country singer, with polished production and anthemic choruses. However, the actual songs boast more lyrical detail and narrative thrust than the standard Nashville song.
