    All Music Guide Review

Bubblegum music could be fun stuff, but it wasn't that deep in the content arena, and the third volume of Varese Sarabande's fine series lags a bit behind the first couple in terms of top-notch tunes. It does have some of the core classics of the genre with the Archies' "Sugar, Sugar," and Ohio Express' "Chewy, Chewy," and Mac & Katie Kissoon's "Chirpy Chirpy Cheep Cheep." The Monkees (arguably not bubblegum) weigh in with "A Little Bit Me, A Little Bit You," Bobby Sherman represents the teen idol wing with "Little Woman," and Sweet play bubblegum at its hardest and most glam-influenced with "Little Willy." The cuts by the likes of Robin McNamara, Tony Burrows, the Clique, and Salt Water Taffy may be way more obscure...Song titles include "Ricky Ticky Ta Ta Ta," "Wham! Bam! Ala Cazam," and Kasenetz-Katz Super Cirkus' immortal "Dong-Dong-Diki-Di-Ki Dong"; they really don't write 'em like that anymore. ~ Richie Unterberger, All Music Guide
