    The Back 2 the Old Skool volumes of Rhino's Street Jams series concentrates on late-'70s and early-'80s funk, always presented in their full-length versions. Where the Hip-Hop from the Top and Electric Funk editions are more closely related to hip-hop, these songs provided the basis for many hip-hop records, either as the source for samples or as the scratched grooves. Street Jams: Back 2 the Old Skool, Vol. 1 features songs by Bootsy Collins, Dazz, Fatback, and several other artists. Rhino has presented these songs on other collections before -- most notably Phat Trax -- but Back 2 the Old Skool remains an entertaining and informative listen. ~ Leo Stanley, All Music Guide
