    Trombonist Chris Barber was one of the most popular British bandleaders of the early '60s "trad" boom. During this 1976 concert of Duke Ellington-associated tunes (which has been released on CD by Timeless), Barber and his septet (which includes trumpeter Pat Halcox and the reeds of John Crocker) actually only perform five of the nine numbers (highlighted by "Stevedore Stomp" and "Shout 'Em Aunt Tilly"). Ellington alumnus Russell Procope is well featured on the four other numbers, doubling on alto and clarinet while backed by a rhythm section that also includes organist Wild Bill Davis (who sticks exclusively to piano); this date gave Procope (who also sits in with Barber's band on "Mood Indigo") a rare opportunity to stretch out.
