Tiny Tim

While Tiny Tim was finally recognized for the incredible storehouse of early American songwriting and performing that true believers always knew him to be, his erratic work with backing bands often obscured the purity of his presentation. This sometimes made his newer albums unfocused, frequently casting him into a novelty mode hamstringing the rich musical treasures he was capable of invoking. This 1995 live show of Tiny Tim with nothing more than his trusty ukelele backing him does much to rectify that situation. It's a rambling, stream of consciousness performance as Tiny free associates between related tunes, sometime switching in mid verse. His trademark falsetto appears in the most freakish moments on this disc, but in the main it's his rich baritone voice (his downright declamatory version of "Your Cheatin' Heart" is one of the disc's numerous highlights) and genial charm that made this a show well worth documenting. ~ Cub Koda, All Music Guide
