The soundtrack to the sophisticated, witty comedy Gentlemen Don't Eat Poets is dominated by Anne Dudley's appealingly frothy and lush score, but most listeners will find themselves attracted to "This Was Never Meant To Be," a previously unreleased song by Sting, who also stars in the film. Surprisingly, Dudley's melodic skills seem more infectious than Sting's, whose song is a labored attempt at replicating the joys of traditional pop. Though the song is a washout, the remainder of the soundtrack is actually quite fun, especially for fans of the film. ~ Stephen Thomas Erlewine, All Music Guide
