    All Music Guide Review

Before he liked piƱa coladas, Rupert Holmes was a singer/songwriter who attempted to blend Broadway traditions, Hollywood musicals, and soft rock -- not entirely dissimilar from Barry Manilow in that respect. He was ambitious and interesting, and Varese's Epoch Collection contains the best of those ambitious and interesting, if not entirely successful, recordings. This is pretty showy stuff and Holmes' ambitions often get the better of him, but it's a rather fascinating curiosity for fans of Holmes and soft rock for that very reason. ~ Stephen Thomas Erlewine, All Music Guide
