With its major-label bow, Living Well Is the Best Revenge, demand grew for Midtown's 1999 debut EP, Sacrifice of Life, which had fallen out of print after its initial 3,000-piece pressing. While the band did update the release's cover art, sonically it's a straight reissue. Sacrifice of Life will be an interesting artifact for Midtown fans, as its five tracks are essentially less-polished versions of the workmanlike emo-punk plied on the band's later albums. But listeners looking for an introduction to Midtown should probably start with Living Well or 2000's Save the World, Lose the Girl, as they're more fully realized. ~ Johnny Loftus, All Music Guide
