One thing that can be said of Dressed to Kill's compilations is that they are a great way to get a solid collection together in a specific genre (or set of related genres) without spending an extreme amount of money. In the case of this four-CD box set, the genres in question range from the shaggy end of acid and space (with a surprise visit from Hawkwind) to the intense edge of tribal techno, which means there is a great deal of likeable synthesizer noodling, walloping great chunks of booming bass, periodic breakdowns, passages of experimental weirdness (Syzygy provide a great example with "Namaste"), trippy psychedelic guitars, and lots more. Older listeners might well be struck by how much of the music here bears a resemblance to synthesizer bands of the early '70s -- particularly early Tangerine Dream -- but even the everything-old-is-new-again element comes equipped with a distinctly '90s approach to bass and percussion (in other words, make sure you have woofers with titanium cones.)
