If the first volume in this thin concept series was squarely aimed at the parents of baby boomers, then the second entry (Urban Fire, get it?) is just as clearly targeted toward boomer-aged funk and disco music fans who remember the era fondly. This makes perfect sense, as the cigar-smoking fad that caused this series to coalesce into being is basically a yuppie-driven market, so the inclusion of polyester-influenced tracks like "Yes We Can Can" by the Pointer Sisters, "Shake (Your Booty)" by the Gap Band, "Car Wash" by Rose Royce, "Everlasting Love" by Carl Carlton, and the inevitable (and obnoxious) "Popcorn" by Hot Butter make perfect compilation-worthy sense. Left-field filler (though hardly that from a musical standpoint) includes "Ain't No Love In The Heart Of The City" by Bobby Bland, "Don't You Wanna Make Love" by the largely unknown and seldom anthologized Shotgun, the wild breakneck tempo of "Bold Soul Sister" by Ike & Tina Turner, and the sultry "Love Me Right" from Denise LaSalle completing this 14-track package. Not quite a disco package, but awful damn close. ~ Cub Koda, All Music Guide
