On his four-track 45/45 release for Mute, Stefan Betke does away with the crackles, mite-like rustlings, submerged nuances, and German titles of his previous productions as Pole. Beats and percussive effects are far more present and grounded in hip-hop as much as they are rooted in dub, which lend the tracks an organic touch never before present -- "Back Home," easily the meatiest and most involving track on the disc, even works in some double bass from August Engkilde. Somewhat ironically, this single -- which serves as a teaser for a Mute full-length featuring vocal work from rap MC Fat Jon -- puts Betke closer to producers on his ~scape label such as Burnt Friedman and Andrew Pekler. ~ Andy Kellman, All Music Guide
