In the wake of the success of the Now That's What I Call Music! compilation series, many other labels have come up with their own versions of those hit-driven discs. Got Hits! Perfect Pop Album is Virgin's attempt. This 20-track compilation does indeed live up to the first half of its title. It has loads of hits. Kylie Minogue's huge dance smash "Can't Get You out of My Head," Coldplay's "Yellow," Dirty Vegas' ubiquitous "Days Go By," and Aaliyah's "Try Again" are some of the bigger hits. The disc also has some songs that were lesser hits, like Moby's "We Are All Made of Stars," the Calling's "Wherever You Will Go," and Justin Timberlake's "Like I Love You." Where the record stumbles a bit, at least for American audiences, is with the inclusion of songs that were not hits in America, like Blue's "All Rise" or Jump5's "All I Can Do." The inclusions of Paula Abdul's 1988 hit "Straight Up" and Kylie Minogue's 1988 hit "The Loco Motion" are somewhat baffling, although Abdul's stint as a judge on American Idol may explain it; and while having an early hit by Minogue is a nice historical balance to her current hit, it just doesn't make any sense musically. Still, apart from the British hits and the '80s hits, this disc is a decent snapshot of the pop scene in the early 2000s. By no means is it perfect, or even close, but it is fairly enjoyable and that isn't a bad thing. ~ Tim Sendra, All Music Guide
