With the exception of fraternal label Compost/JCR, Sonar Kollektiv's frenetic output is nearly unparalleled in the downtempo/acid jazz world. With Sonar Kollektiv's vast label output spread across several sublabels, it was most difficult to decipher which releases came out where and when. So the gang behind the collective thought it best to shut down all sublabels and release everything solely under the Sonar Kollektiv name. From all of those sublabels, this compilation takes the finest moments that were unreleased, or simply undiscovered, by a wide listening audience. The formula is similar to the aforementioned Compost/JCR label: release quality downtempo jazz with a Brazilian flair sans the pretension found in most chillout compilations. While most of the names on Sonar Kollektiv [2003] may not ring a bell for casual listeners, it most certainly won't be that way for long.
