A surprisingly solid collection of space recordings from the 1970s, '80s and '90s, with Kraftwerk, Tangerine Dream, Eno, Gong, Klaus Schulze, Fripp & Eno, Roxy Music, David Bowie and Hawkwind representing the first onset of ambience. Inheritors like Psychic TV, Coil, Legendary Pink Dots, Nik Turner and Helios Creed form the '80s contingent, while the new school of ambient-techno appears with wizards like the Orb, Aphex Twin, Future Sound of London and William Orbit. Though it's a bit weak on the 1990s, This Is Space is a worthy collection of mostly beatless recordings throughout the ages. ~ John Bush, All Music Guide
