Dancehall pioneer Sugar Minott had his greatest success at the very end of the 1970s and into the early 1980s, when songs like "Hard Time Pressure," "Good Things Going," and "Herbman Hustling" brought him international acclaim. Reggae Max collects his best-known songs from that period in a rather unadorned, single-disc sampler. Minott's best work, however, was often the Jamaican-only releases that showed his conscious side, belying his public image as a lovers rocker. This collection works fine, though, if it's the hits you need. ~ Steve Leggett, All Music Guide
