The punk generation thumbs their snide nose at a likely target: Hallmark-issue love. The candy may be rotten, but the songs are certainly not -- at least not in quality terms. Taking on the vast and terminally confusing terrain of young love, the likes of X, the Nuns, the Buzzcocks, Black Flag, and the Dickies slash and roll through the land of psychotic romance, the libido, sado-masochism, and jealousy. And paying askew homage to some amorous classics of old, the Dictators give Sonny & Cher a raucous spin ("I Got You Babe") while the Vandals drag Alan Carr's Grease to the depths ("Summer Nights"). Finally, like Dillinger and Capone showing latter-day hoods (and punks) how it's done, Iggy & the Stooges bring the original dirty slab with the take-no-prisoners side "Your Pretty Face Is Going to Hell." Ending things with the Rotters' fittingly blunt guffaw "Sit on My Face Stevie Nicks," Cupid's Revenge will perfectly soundtrack that Valentines Day party for the perennially single set. ~ Stephen Cook, All Music Guide
