This eight-song odds and ends EP from Fastbacks pulls one song from New Mansions in Sound ("No Information") and teams it with three amusing but unexpected covers (Petula Clark, Wenis featuring Kurt Bloch's brother Al, the Moody Blues) and four otherwise unavailable originals. Fans who were hoping for something edgier from Fastbacks after the relatively poppy New Mansions in Sound will want to give this a listen; "The Ladder" and "The Buried Treasure Was Crap" up the punk quotient of Mansions considerably, and the title cut is a highly atmospheric instrumental. Alone in a Furniture Warehouse... is solid enough, but pretty much for fans only; but then again, how many import 10" EPs are created for the casual observer anyway? (The original Spanish release on Munster Records features a different sequence than the later issue on Bird Cage. ~ Mark Deming, All Music Guide
