    All Music Guide Review

Hard Rockin' '80s is an entertaining but wildly uneven collection of mainstream rock hits from the '80s. Many of these tracks qualify as album rock, not hard rock. It's difficult to call the Hooters' "And We Danced," and Tommy Conwell's rootsy "I'm Not Your Man," Tommy Tutone's power-pop gem "867-5309/Jenny" or anything by Henry Lee Summer "hard," and even the Beastie Boys' heavy "(You Gotta) Fight for Your Right (To Party)" doesn't rock in the way the title Hard Rockin' '80s implies -- namely, it's not like Alice Cooper, Ted Nugent and Europe, who all have second-rate cuts here. Even with its flaws, Hard Rockin' '80s is an entertaining sampler of '80s album rock that might be worth its budget price if you're feeling nostalgic for those years. ~ Stephen Thomas Erlewine, All Music Guide
