    All Music Guide Review

One of the initial products springing forth from Creation's mid-'90s U.S. licensing deal with Tristar (distributed through Sony), Patron Saints of Teenage serves as an excellent introduction to the pre-rave era of the label. Providing a bit of a Cliffs' Notes summary of Creation's more folk-pop and noisy '60s rave-up period, the compilation draws hits and near-hits from the likes of Felt, Biff Bang Pow!, the Pastels, the Telescopes, and Jazz Butcher. One under-recognized psych-pop gem reprised for American consumers here is Revolving Paint Dream's ear-piercing "Flowers in the Sky. Most of the tracks are culled from full-lengths, and the remaining few are from singles. Unfortunately, Creation's deal with Tristar lasted about as long as a Meat Whiplash single, and some of the planned reissue campaign never reached fruition. ~ Andy Kellman, All Music Guide
