    All Music Guide Review

Buddyhead Presents: Gimme Skelter grabs ahold of rock & roll for the sake of art. Master-minded by Buddyhead's Travis Michael Keller and hosted by original punk rocker Iggy Pop, the 20-song set features rabble-rousers of the past and present for an explosive collection tailored to make the listener throw conservative behavior to the side and dispraise corporate America. Those included on this album kick and scream to raise some hell in a world where a majority believes war is good and music downloading is horrible enough to be against the law. Select cuts from Mudhoney, Le Tigre, Burning Brides, and the Yeah Yeah Yeahs give a little guff as far as that's concerned and maintain a nasty, raw, rock & roll stance. Primal Scream's live version of "Shoot Speed/Kill Light" thrives on blistering, layered guitar work while "Back of a Taxi (Alternative Grunge Mix)" from Your Enemies Friends is a vengeful presentation. More or less, Gimme Skelter is Keller's mix tape -- and it can be yours, too. It's snide enough to see beyond mainstream's crunchy punk riffs, but the wrath on social monotony is the same as it ever was. [Two bonus tracks are also included.] ~ MacKenzie Wilson, All Music Guide
