    All Music Guide Review

    This is a nice cross-section of instrumentals that did well on the R&B charts in the 1960s, with several of them crossing over to pop success. A nice mixture of well-known hits (Slim Harpo's "Baby, Scratch My Back," King Curtis' "Memphis Soul Stew" and "Soul Twist," Ramsey Lewis' "The In Crowd," Booker T. and the MGs' "Hang 'Em High," King Curtis and Les Cooper's "Wiggle Wobble") and rarities (the Packers' "Hole in the Wall," Junior Walker's "Cleo's Mood," James Booker's "Gonzo," the Upsetters' "Jaywalking") make this an above-average instrumental compilation. Tracks from Earl Washington and Young-Holt Unlimited round out the 14-track mid-line package. ~ Cub Koda, All Music Guide
