Lyrics from The Very Best of India
All Music Guide Review
This compilation is an attempt at an all-encompassing overview of Indian music, but falls short by trying to cover too much territory. There is precious little in the way of classical or folk music, focusing instead on the burgeoning Asian underground and Bollywood scenes. In addition, many of these artists aren't from India at all, representing instead the largely British Indian diaspora community. Then there's an Alice Coltrane piece included, presumably because it's titled "Journey in Satchadananda" and there's a tamboura on it! (Alice Coltrane is neither Indian nor from India.) There is a bunch of good material here, but it's a bit of an unfocused mishmash. ~ Sean Westergaard, All Music Guide
