    All Music Guide Review

It would be difficult to put all of Fats Waller's best recordings in anything but a time capsule, let alone a single CD. This collection does offer 22 choice classics, and for many, that should be good enough. Various selections in different settings are here, including seven solo piano tracks, 11 from Fats Waller & His Rhythm, and a taste of other small groups. The solo tracks include evergreens "Handful of Keys," "Ain't Misbehavin'," and "Allligator Crawl," while his vaunted Rhythm serve up the always hilarious "The Joint Is Jumpin," "Your Feet's Too Big," and "Jitterbug Waltz." The much more comprehensive French RCA Black & White and Bluebird sessions are prime purchase targets for Waller's fans, but this collection will fill the bill in the interim. ~ Michael G.
