Lyrics from Klash: Kaught Up in Da Mix
All Music Guide Review
Klash is a romantic thriller set in urban Jamaica, and a "battle of the bands" figures centrally in the storyline. So it's no surprise that a soundtrack album was spun off from the film -- though it is a bit surprising that more of the program wasn't actually taken from the performances documented in the film. There's a fine live performance by Bounty Killer, who delivers a rough and aggressive version of his "Down in the Ghetto," and a fine medley by the Canadian DJ Snow. But most of the album's strongest moments are studio recordings by the likes of Terror Fabulous (who contributes an effective anti-gun diatribe called "Gun Stupid"), Lorna Bennett's "Breakfast in Bed" (not the UB40 song), and Steel Pulse's slick but rootsy "I Spy." There's a clunker or two on the album, and the little vignettes from the movie that separate each song are very annoying (if only because each one is assigned a separate track on the CD, making it difficult to navigate around the program), but this album is well worth hearing overall. ~ Rick Anderson, All Music Guide
