Hab is a newcomer to the Swedish Dot label, which arrived on the scene nearly fully formed (and with a rep to match!) in early 1997, simultaneously releasing four singles of crafted, high-quality experimental electronica. A rare American presence in a decidedly European artform, Hab (a native of New York) also represents one of the strongest Stateside contributions to date, as evidenced by this debut EP of sharp, scientific ambient electro. Like most of the rest of Dot's catalog, Hab features a pair of original tracks and a pair of remixes on the flip (by Nonplace Urban Field and Paul Frankland, aka Journeyman). All four tracks are solid, solid stuff, the Hab tracks sounding a bit like a more melodic Autechre and the NUF and Journeyman mixes courting the outer edges of, respectively, frantic electro/jungle and breakbeat-driven ambient dub. ~ Sean Cooper, All Music Guide
