All Music Guide Review

Ras designed Ras Portraits as a concise introduction to a particular artist's recordings for the label. Since the information behind Ras releases is always shady, it's difficult to discern the origin of tracks on Ras Portraits, but the disc is one of the better collections of Freddie McGregor material that Ras has released, and listeners curious about his albums for the label should start here. It should not, however, be seen as a definitive introduction to his music in general. Among the featured tracks on McGregor's Ras Portrait are "Push Come to Shove," "Go Away Pretty Woman," "Apple of My Eye," "Across the Border," "Rastaman Camp," "Mama Mama," "Sweet Child" and "Forever My Love." ~ Stephen Thomas Erlewine, All Music Guide
