Sony's Nick at Nite: Beach Blanket Bash offers up 14 surf-heavy cuts from the '60s, '70s, and '80s from the likes of Jan & Dean ("Surf City"), the Ventures ("Hawaii Five-O"), and First Class ("Beach Baby"). It's a little schizophrenic, but modern cuts like "Walking on Sunshine" from Katrina & the Waves and Dave Edmunds' "High School Nights" work surprisingly well with oldies staples like Buddy Knox's "Party Doll." On the down side, it also boasts a track from Bruce Willis ("Under the Boardwalk"), which sits alongside kitsch classics such as "It's a Sunshine Day" by the Brady Bunch and "The Hula Hoop Song" by Teresa Brewer like a beached whale. Also, no Beach Boys? ~ James Christopher Monger, All Music Guide
