Ras designed Ras Portraits as a concise introduction to a particular artist's recordings for the label. Since the information behind Ras releases is always shady, it's difficult to discern the origin of tracks on Ras Portraits, but the disc is one of the better collections of Dean Fraser material that Ras has released, and listeners curious about his albums for the label should start here. It should not, however, be seen as a definitive introduction to his music in general. Among the featured tracks on Fraser's Ras Portrait are "Roots Rock Reggae," "Johnny Was," "Africa Unite," "Zimbabwe," "Ram Dancehall," "Bad Card," "Crazy Baldheads," "Chant Down Babylon" and "Unforgettable." ~ Stephen Thomas Erlewine, All Music Guide
