CEMA Special Markets' Alternative Rock Hits contains a selection of ten late-'80s and early-'90s college radio favorites, all culled from the Capitol and Capitol-Associated vaults. While some of these songs now sound a bit dated -- for instance, School of Fish's "Take Me Anywhere" hasn't weathered as well as "Three Strange Days" -- but there's enough really good songs (Bob Mould's "It's Too Late," Lloyd Cole's "She's a Girl and I'm a Man," Crowded House's "It's Only Natural," the Smithereens' "Too Much Passion," Iggy Pop's "Home," Camper Van Beethoven's "Pictures of Matchstick Men" -- to make it more than worth its budget price, especially for casual listeners. ~ Stephen Thomas Erlewine, All Music Guide
