    The Great Donovan is a budget-priced triple-CD set from Australia whose origins may be obscure but whose quality and sources are beyond reproach -- the listener has to get it open to realize that it's all Sony Music (i.e., Epic Records) material, rather than re-records, 43 songs covering a decade of his history. It's assembled in vaguely chronological form, without a single word of annotation or explanation, but offering very good sound and a nice diversity, mixing the lyrical and electric and eclectic sides freely on each disc. It's not particularly ambitious except in its reach, but there are a lot of less interesting compilations out on the artist -- and any Donovan compilation that includes "Celia of the Seals" has to get points for that. ~ Bruce Eder, All Music Guide
