Anybody with even a passing interest in Australian rock & roll will find this disc both highly entertaining and hugely informative. Subtitled "41 Essential Australian Rock Singles 1976-1986," it is accurately billed. Most of the major acts from that period are represented here, though there are some notable exceptions: the Radiators, AC/DC, and Midnight Oil are all conspicuous by their absence. But all up, this two-disc set really is a load. From the surfie-dream pop of Richard Clapton's "Deep Water" to tougher fare like antipodean punk progenitors the Saints' "Know Your Product," from internationally acclaimed acts like INXS ("Stay Young") and Men at Work ("Who Can It Be Now?") through to local treasures such as the Angels ("No Secrets"), Mondo Rock ("Cool World"), Goanna ("Solid Rock"), and the Hoodoo Gurus ("I Want You Back"), you get a lick of every flavor. A 20-page booklet is included and Oz rock historian Glenn A. Baker's liner notes are excellent as always. No filler here.
