NOMO

NOMO is a strange and wonderful band. They have carved out a very unique chunk of the indie rock landscape as the only indie rock band playing a version of Afro-pop in America, maybe the whole world. And here's the real surprise: they do it very well. The three songs on their debut CD are fiery, rollicking tracks that sound like they could have been on Tony Allen or Fela albums. "If You Want" is a funky, strutting song set ablaze by an incendiary saxophone solo. "Better Than That" sounds like vintage township jazz, with waves of percussion roiling away beneath the tough sax and the mellower flute and electric piano solos. "Busy" is an epic-length jam that is bursting with sunshine and soul, sure to get you up and moving. The disc sounds amazing and the production by His Name Is Alive's Warn Defever is warm and full; each instrument is audible but they all blend together in a wall of funky sound.
