    All Music Guide Review

Not to be confused with Profile's Diggin' in the Crates series, Hot Productions' Diggin' the Crates takes on a theme with each volume. The third volume focuses on old school rap, combining a handful of well-known classics with tracks that, while not nearly as popular, have their own place in hip-hop history. Frankie Smith's "Double Dutch Bus," JVC Force's "Boogie Down Bronx," Spoonie Gee's "Spoonin' Rap," Johnson Products' "Johnson Jumpin'," the Treacherous Three's "Feel the Heart Beat," Doug E. Fresh's "Just Havin' Fun," and Midway's "Set It Out" are featured. As the title of the series indicates, the selections are more likely to be geared toward seasoned fans -- as opposed to those who are just beginning to retrace the history of rap music. ~ Andy Kellman, All Music Guide
