Up-and-coming breaks DJ Überzone makes his contribution to the celebrated Y4K series with this excellent compilation of tracks by such eclectic talents as Manu Dibango, General MIDI, Andy Page, Christian J. and Meat Katie. The man himself contributes several of the album's highlights, one of them a collaborative mash-up of Dibango's "Soul Makossa" with none other than the legendary Afrika Bambaataa. There aren't any big surprises here, but big surprises aren't really the point with dance music; instead, you get lots and lots of reliably funky breakbeats, sometimes spiced up (as on Überzone's "Drunken Monkey") with fairly virtuosic turntablist flourishes. A couple of tracks get a bit tedious before they end (Andy Page's "Mr Rush" is one such) but for the most part this is dance music that's as much fun just to listen to as to dance to. Strongly recommended to all beat freaks. ~ Rick Anderson, All Music Guide
