    Hummer

    02/10/2004 | Ninja Tune

    All Music Guide Review

For those few adventurous listeners who felt that Fog's 2003 experimental adventure, Ether Teeth, was too organized, the Andrew Broder project returned with an EP that subtracted the hooks and replaced them with the most extreme, abstract recordings that could still qualify as the product of confessional songwriting. The Hummer EP is a brief seven-track release that ranges from the cacophonous blowout "Whom That Hits Walls" to the spare piano ballad "I, Baby." As usual, Broder's songs possess a kinetic power that belies their outsider status, whether he's rhapsodizing over the deliciousness of melted crayons or asking a loved one for help in building a fort. ~ John Bush, All Music Guide
