This European compilation from Telstar TV compiles 42 tracks, most of which will be familiar to devoted R&B fans in the U.S. The two discs are spread rather evenly across the entire decade, including plenty of classic-minded soul, electronically-enhanced post-disco, ballads, uptempo grooves, and even a little bit of rap. Even if you have a fair portion of what's here, there's enough depth to warrant immersion. No set could possibly offer a definitive view, so you can't knock the compilers at all. Highlights include Loose Ends' "Hangin' on a String (Contemplating)," Freeez' "I.O.U.," Evelyn "Champagne" King's "Love Come Down," Soul II Soul's "Keep on Movin'," Hall & Oates' "I Can't Go for That (No Can Do)," Level 42's "Lessons in Love," and Midnight Star's "Midas Touch." ~ Andy Kellman, All Music Guide
