The Robert Johnson Songbook is Peter Green's first recording made entirely of covers of the music written by the King of the Delta Blues. Unfortunately, though pleasant, The Robert Johnson Songbook lacks the warmth and soulfulness of its successor -- Hot Foot Powder. The Robert Johnson Songbook features Green's Splinter Group, plus a guest appearance by Paul Rodgers. [In 2003, and later in 2008, the United Kingdom's Snapper imprint reissued this set with two extra tracks, bringing the album to a total of 16 cuts -- with different covers for each. The first reissue contains the original Artisan cover, while the 2008 one contains a cheesier painted one.
