I LAUGHED I CRIED I FUDGED MY UNDIES

    All Music Guide Review

A faux retrospective (hosted by a Mr. Alan Pinchloaf) of the naughty and sleazy lounge singer Red Peters, I Laughed, I Cried, I Fudged My Undies is a party record for when the kids go to bed. Peters takes double entendres (sometimes gross, almost always sexual) and stretches them into songs. That's it. That's all he does. Over and over. He's not even what you'd call "clever" and most of these jokes go back to bawdy vaudeville. But Peters is well aware of how simple and stupid his material is, and that's what makes the album so much fun. His lounge singer character is a defeated guy who, according to Mr. Pinchloaf, spiraled down his career to the point of entertaining at a Tourette's syndrome benefit (here listeners get the live recording with audience reaction). "How's Your Whole...Family?" and "Ballad of a Dog Named Stains" are the big hits that Howard Stern listeners will be familiar with, but Peters has plenty of good material past that. The happy jig "The Two Gay Irishmen" and the David Seville-Chipmunks tribute "Holy Shit, It's Christmas!" are not just as good as the hits, but also serve to diversify the album -- at least as far as the music. He's too meek to be a misogynist and too dumb to show much malice, which makes him all the more lovable. If you still think fart jokes are funny, dig in. Pinchloaf's faux documentary throughout the disc strings everything together nicely. If you want to play the role of Peters at your next party, there are some karaoke mixes at the end. [The 2004 edition of I Laughed, I Cried, I Fudged My Undies adds two bonus tracks, "Diana" and "The Ten Second National Anthem."] ~ David Jeffries, All Music Guide
