Saxon's big career relaunch by way of 1985's heavily promoted Innocence Is No Excuse -- their seventh album, but first under the EMI/Parlophone umbrella -- had fallen flat on its face, leaving the band's next release, 1986's Rock the Nations, feeling hopelessly anticlimactic. Even more alarming, the evident stress involved in the whole ordeal had also cost them the services of founding bassist and major songwriter Steve Dawson (rumors indicated his wife had long been pestering him to get off the road), a fact that may have explained Rock the Nations' lackluster songwriting. Although not exactly hit single material, "Waiting for the Night" was definitely among the disc's better tracks, but the most interesting thing about the release of this maxi-single was the inclusion of a rare instrumental outtake named "Chase the Fade." Hardly the stuff of legend itself, the track at least served to motivate some of Saxon's last remaining completist-type fans to dig into their pockets one more time. ~ Eduardo Rivadavia, All Music Guide
