This la Sonora Ponceña effort maintains the Cuban-influenced style that was the cornerstone for this band's solidly developed sound. Nonetheless, the repertoire (based on the son montuno/guaguancó traditions) is quite good, particularly on tunes like "Prende el Fogón," "Tumba la Caña, Jibarito," and "La Puerta Está Abierta." Quintessential la Sonora Ponceña, with vocalists Luigi Texidor and Tito Gómez at their absolute best. ~ José A. Estévez, Jr., All Music Guide
