A collection of Peter Tosh's late-era tracks for EMI, In My Song is a well-sequenced introduction to what might be termed the "softer" side of Tosh, although that's a relative term, certainly, since cuts here like his revisit to "Maga Dog" are plenty prickly, and a soft Tosh is still a good deal rougher, tougher, and more militant than any other ex-Wailer, and that includes Bob Marley. But this compilation does feel like it only tells part of the story, and lacking tracks like "Legalize It," "Stepping Razor," and "Downpressor Man," it sort of downgrades the angry young man of reggae to grumpy status. Tosh had a vision, and being smooth and accessible weren't options he considered very often. Still, this track selection flows wonderfully, and at well over an hour long, nobody gets cheated. ~ Steve Leggett, All Music Guide
